This is a heads up for the LoveBytes digital arts festival in Sheffield next month. I like giving them a plug, as they were kind enough to exhibit one of my Director projects some 10 years ago, in the multimedia gallery. LoveBytes is well worth a visit, as is Sheffield. If you get a chance, take a trip on the Sheffield trams and visit the cathedral, which is a strange mixture of the old and the new.
The dates are 9 - 10 May. Check out the Lovebytes web site for more details. |

Ed Burton is presenting the public lecture on 16 April 2008. This should be a good one, because Ed is the creator of BAFTA award winning SodaConstructor, a cool play thing that has been on the internet for many years and is still cool! Even better is the fact Ed Burton is a graduate of the LCEA.
Date: Wednesday 16 April Time: 4:50pm for one hour Location: Middlesex University, London, EN4 8HT Cat Hill Campus: Room 137

Friday, 29 February 2008 |
I'm a bit late posting this as the Register debate took place earlier in the week. But they will be posting audio recordings of the presentations and discussions soon. I only managed to listen into the last half hour, but what i heard was very interesting.
For those not in the know, The Register held a Green Computing debate sponsored by Intel, Dell, Freeform Dynamics, VMware and Computer Aid International.
The presentation programme is available so that you can see what the audio downloads will contain (when available).
Update: the recordings of discussions and presentations are now available at the above links (9/03/08). |

Many early LCEA Design for Interactive Media students cut their multimedia teeth using Director, so despite the dominance of Flash these days for web work, they might be pleased to see it is not being retired just yet.
Despite the possibility of being dumped by Adobe after their 'merger' with Macromedia, Director isn't quite dead. In fact Director 11 is being released on 8th March 2008 in the USA, whilst international versions will be available in June,
The new version supports Javascript, Lingo and bitmap filters for applying shadow and glow effects. One assumes the new version will be Mac OSX compatible, but if you are a Mac user, it would be wise to check!
The UK version is expected to cost £705. See the Adobe site for more details. |

Anyone visited the LCEA site recently?
It has finally been redesigned and looks quite impressive compared to the old site. The design is much cleaner and easy to navigate, with plenty of images to please the eye.
The text is clear and crisp, with detailed information about the courses. The calendar feature shows the latest lectures and events and fits in well with the overall site design. |
