Who are we?
LCEA Alumni are graduates of the Lansdown Centre for Electronic Arts,
a post graduate research centre at Middlesex University in the UK.
Many alumni have set up their own new media businesses and consultancies.
Other alumni careers include graphic design, interactive media design,
new media research, game design, web site development and design,
animation, teaching, film making, audio design, journalism and various management
roles.
LCEA alumni have a good record for winning new media awards, including
BAFTAs, Milia, BIMA and others.

Switchover underway in southern England
The first stage of the digital switchover in Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey has been completed. Analogue BBC Two was permanently turned off at the Hannington transmitter group on 8 February and digital TV has been boosted to reach all areas.

Virgin exceeds 1 billion on demand views
Virgin Media surpassed 1 billion TV on demand views in 2011, according to the cable company's full year results. Driven by Virgin Media's TiVo service, the final total was 1,004,447,198 views, an overall increase of 14% on 2010. ITV's Coronation Street was the most watched catch-up show, while The Vampire Diaries was the most popular series.

Lords agree Local Digital Television Programme Services Order 2012
The draft Local Digital Television Programme Services Order 2012 was agreed during grand committee in the House of Lords on Monday (6 February). The motion, moved by government spokeswoman for culture, media and sport Baroness Rawlings, would ensure there was greater emphasis and plurality placed on the importance of local television channels.

Marks and Spencer creates app for Samsung Smart TVs
Marks & Spencer (M&S) has become the first UK retail partner to create an app for Samsung's Smart TV platform. The new app will give viewers access to the latest high street fashion trends as well as tips on lifestyle, food, fashion and technology.

UK broadband speeds "increase by 22%"
UK consumers are achieving 22% faster broadband speeds at home than they were 12 months ago, according to new research from Ofcom. In November 2011, the average actual UK residential broadband speed was 7.6Mbit/s, compared with 6.2Mbit/s in November/December 2010, and 6.8Mbit/s in May 2011.

Humax adds Teletext Holidays app
Teletext Holidays has agreed a new partnership with Humax, to offer a holiday search app on all new Humax Freeview HD boxes. The app will allow viewers to find holiday packages by destination and view the best online deals and best sellers. The app can be accessed through the Humax TV Portal, available on the HD-FOX T2 and HDR-FOX T2 boxes.

France 24 launches connected TV application
France 24, the international news channel, is launching a new application for connected TVs. The new multi-screen application will enable users to watch France 24 live in its three language versions and also tune into its global on-demand programmes.

BT Vision and Miramax sign on demand movie deal
BT has entered a licensing agreement with Miramax that will bring films from the independent studio to BT Vision customers in the UK. The agreement gives BT Vision Unlimited subscribers access to a range of films including: Chicago; Pulp Fiction; Kill Bill 1 and 2; The English Patient; Good Will Hunting, The Aviator, and the first three instalments of the horror franchise, Scream.

Sky to launch internet TV service
Sky has announced plans to launch a new internet TV service. Launching in the first half of 2012 with access to a range of Sky content, including Sky Movies, the service will expand to offer sport and entertainment later in the year.
