This one is great! I was really chuffed when I read about this robotic coffee making barista. We have the Italians to thank for placing such an invention high on their to-do lists. Not so hard to believe when I think even the toddlers there suckle on espressos. The DEXMART robot project which incidentally costs 6 million Euro’s focused on the development of robotic hands.

Led by Naples university professor Bruno Sciliano, Justine’s (the robot) hand movements are so precise that it can mimic almost all the movements of a human hand. This of course refers to movements concerned for coffee making.

The goal for the team of researchers is to create a system which allows for 2 handed manipulation. Also, they are in the process of equipping the robot with sensors to make it conscious of space and its surroundings.
